Funerary Wreath Wreaths at Funerals are a common thing in modern day. Similar items were used in Ancient Egypt as offerings, and were often made of onions. However, I thought as a Modern Devotee of an ancient God, I would try and combine modern and Ancioent tradition in order to make a new and special offering for the Mysteries of Wesir in 2001. I had the privlage of making a wreath for my father, that I sent to Chicago Illinois, to the Main Temple of the House of Netjer, which happens to be my spiritual home. It was a weird experience how this all happened. At the time I was living in a house where I had many grapevines. As fall arrived I couldn't get over this most overwhelming feeling that these grapevines were going to waste. I really thought it was a passing thought, until I emailed one of my friends at the Temple and asked if they ever needed any grapevines for any ritual use. Instead, I found out they were an offering to my Father (as well as Dionysus, who was equated with Wesir in the Late/Graeco-roman periods). So plans got underway to male two Funerary Wreaths for Wesir, One of which would stay in my home and is pictured below.
You can make your own wreath using the ideas I have listed, or your own. Dried fruits and seeds are also good items for a Wesir-wreath as well. use your imagination, relax and follow your heart and see what beautiful things it can create! Pine wreathes, live or artificial, which are widely available during the christmas season (which happens to be right around the time of the Wesir mysteries) are also great to use, since pines and ever greens were very sacred to Wesir. << Back (Recipes) |
